This is a “daisy-chained” bundle of 32 USGI parachute suspension lines. They were cut from decommissioned US military personnel parachutes. They are made of type II nylon cord and measure approximately 20′ to 21′ long (640 feet to 672 feet total). Type II nylon cord has a tensile strength of 400 pounds.
*Often, this is referred to as “550 Cord”. But technically that would be Type III nylon cord which has a tensile strength of 550 pounds. Type II is used for personnel parachutes and Type III is for cargo parachutes. The difference in strength depends on the guts, or internal strands and is visually marked as well. Type II has 4 internal strands and black dots, while Type III has 7 internal strands and is solid color.
